Site Survey

Each TrapWire deployment is preceded by an extensive and comprehensive site survey conducted by experts in the areas of vulnerability assessment and surveillance techniques.

The purpose of the site survey is to identify:

  • Potentially exploitable facility vulnerabilities;
  • Likely surveillance zones;
  • The extent of existing security systems coverage; and
  • Time sensitivities.

The site survey critically evaluates each of these issues and studies the facility as it would be seen through the eyes of a terrorist. To exploit vulnerabilities, perpetrators must conduct surveillance operations. Terrorist surveillants will begin the process by looking for specific facility perimeter locations that offer both line-of-sight to a vulnerability and provide effective cover for the surveillance activity. Once our experts have identified potential vulnerabilities, the surrounding areas will be surveyed to identify the zones from which surveillance is most likely to occur. The facility will then be inspected to identify the existence and effectiveness of installed surveillance technologies, and a time and motion study will be conducted to determine when an attack would have the greatest impact. Our experts will work with facility security personnel to ensure that all available collection resources are properly sited to cover the critical surveillance zones, and make recommendations regarding modifications or additions as appropriate. Security personnel will also be provided with recommendations as to how vulnerabilities to attack could be reduced by eliminating as many of the surveillance zones as possible. This exercise will also effectively channel terrorists (or criminals) into areas more easily controlled by the defenders.
